GP Information-Sharing Policy

By keeping the GP Information-Sharing Policy box checked, you are agreeing for us to share your personal information and your alcohol test results with your GP practice.

GP information-sharing is voluntary.  You can choose not to share your information with your GP and use all other aspects of the website as usual.

Sharing your information with your GP will help your GP to stay informed about your alcohol use, associated risks and any changes you have been advised to make.


Your information will be sent to a secure NHS email address accessed by your GP practice administrator(s) only.  As a third party, your GP practice must at all times provide the same levels of security for your personal information as we do and, where required, are bound by a legal agreement to keep your personal information private, secure and to process it only on the specific instructions of HAGA and for the purposes intended.

How this information will be used

A practice administrator will add your alcohol screening results to your Patient Record. and your GP will be informed of what action you have been advised to take, so that they can discuss your results with you as appropriate.  Your personal information will be used by your GP solely for the purposes of identifying you. 

DontBottleItUp will store your information for three years, before deleting your records permanently.  We will never share your personal information with anyone other than your GP unless the law or the public interest binds us to.

Access to your personal information

You can contact your GP to request that the information transmitted from DontBottleItUp is removed from your Patient Record or amended.  Please contact your GP practice to find out how to do this.
